Prague has an excellent public transport system combining metro, trams and buses. The trams operate in the very centre of town, even where buses cannot go, and they operate at all hours of the day and night. Trams generally run every 2 to every 20 minutes depending on the route and time of day. Their timetables are displayed on boards at each tram stop.
The same ticket can be used for metro, trams and buses. Tickets can be bought from small coin-slot machines located at metro stations and near some tram and bus stops, or from most tobacconists/newsagents, as well as from manned kiosks at metro stations.
- A basic ticket costs 32 CZK and with this you can travel for up to 90 minutes, including connections.
- A limited ticket for 24 CZK is valid for 30 minutes.
- Tickets valid for 1 day, 3 days or longer, are also available.
- To use the ticket machines, just insert coins and then select your ticket by pushing the relevant button once.
During the night (from midnight until 4.30 a.m.) the day tram routes are replaced with trams numbered from 51 to 59, which travel on slightly different routes. The timetables and routes are displayed at each tram stop.
Any tram stop which is marked with the letter –M– has a metro station nearby, allowing you to continue your journey on the metro. Prague has three metro lines, and the metros usually run every 2 to 10 minutes, from early morning to midnight.
Travelling from the Airport to Incheba Expo (reverse instructions for the return Journey!)
The best way from the airport to the main contest venue is either by taxi (you will find them at the terminal, and the cost to the city centre is usually c.700 Kc) or by public transport (1 ticket costs 32 Kc and is valid 90 minutes). With public transport, please first buy a ticket at the ticket desk in the arrivals hall of the airport, then take bus 119 to metro station Dejvicka, and from there take EITHER bus X20 to Hradcanska followed by Tram 12 to Vystaviste Holesovice, OR metro A to Staromestska followed by Tram 17 to Vystaviste Holesovice.
